Take a look at the map of North America and you can see all the brutally cold air getting ready to make the move southeastward into the United States and the coldest air will be in the Northeast and Midwest with temperatures running 20 degrees or more below normal in many areas. The first air mass for Monday and Tuesday will be cold but it is the second one that comes for Wednesday into Friday that will send daytime highs into the single digits and teens across the east..and nighttime lows will be in the single digits to below zero inland like across Northern Pennsylvania and Upstate NY and New England. Snow cover from a clipper system Tuesday and Tuesday could act to take nighttime temps even lower and hold daytime highs back a bit. Clipper systems dont have a lot of moisture to work with so usually areas north and west of the storm track wind up with a few inches..sometimes 4. Currently the low is forecast to track across upstate NY into New England based on model trends. Still with the arrival of the arctic air there could be a burst of snow in areas south of the low track so we will watch for this.
The lake effect machine will be operating overtime this week with all this cold air moving in so expect more big snows for areas in the snow belts of upstate New York.
